Gov. Ben Ayade Seeks partnership Of Calabar Chamber Of Commerce in his Economic And Industrialization Drive.

Cross River State Governor, Sen (Prof) Ben Ayade on the 23rd March 2017 sought the collaboration of the Calabar Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture in his quest to turn around the economic fortunes and industrialization of Cross River State. This was during a courtesy visit by the Calabar Chamber of Commerce & Industry to the Governor in his Office.
Earlier in his address, the President of the Chamber Mr Efa Imoke had congratulated the Governor on his award as the Vanguard Governor of the Year, and noted that his signature projects when effectively executed can turn around the fortunes of the State. The President solicited the Governor’s support in pressing for the capital dredging of the Calabar Port even as he is pursuing the Bakassi deep sea port.
The President reiterated the importance of security and while appreciating the Governors constraints appealed and encouraged the Governor to re-double his efforts in ensuring the safety of lives and properties in Calabar as it adversly affected businesses in the metropolis.
He also drew his attention to the physical business environment which is being threatened by the incidences of multiple taxation and appealed to His Excellency to take a holistic look at the business environment with a view to creating an even more business-friendly climate including the issue of consents for land transactions as it critical to business borrowings & mortgage transactions.
He also used that opportunity to intimate the Governor on the forthcoming 75th (diamond ) anniversary of the Calabar Chamber of Commerce and pledged the Chambers continued support of government programs and activities for the ultimate benefit of the good people of Cross River State.
The Governor, Prof. Ayade, thanked the President and Executive Council for the visit and solicited their support in his economic drive to industrialize the State and that is what has informed the 2 signature projects, he intimated the Chamber that the State Executive Council has approved the release of N 1 billion naira for the CRS Microfinance Bank to assist entrepreneurs in accessing fund.
The Governor also pledged to ensure the dredging of the Calabar Port Channel and in response to the business environment issues, approved the setting up of a joint Economic Council Committee made up of government and the Chamber to look into the issues and profer the solutions for government to execute.
The highlight of the event was the decoration of the Governor, Sen. (Prof.) Ben Ayade as an Honorary Member of the Calabar Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
